Royal Mail has suspended the delivery of mail to a number of streets in Renfrewshire after a postman was assaulted on his rounds.
Police Scotland has launched an investigation into an incident which happened on Carrick Road, in the village of Bishopton, on 25 February.
Residents on the street, as well as neighbouring areas, have been told their post can be collected at Erskine Delivery Office in Rashielee Avenue for the time being.
A letter to those affected, signed by the customer operations manager, said a member of staff was subjected to a “serious incident of abuse”.
It added there was an “unacceptably high” risk in delivering mail in the area, which covers eight streets.
The letter also said there was a “threat of further customer abuse” before confirming the matter had been reported to police.
It concluded: “Royal Mail will be working with the police and as part of that we will consider what needs to be done to ensure we can safely resume deliveries to your addresses as soon as possible.”
Streets affected are Carrick Road, Craighead Road, Almond Drive, Cawdor Crescent, Morar Crescent, Yarrow Crescent, Teviot Drive and Ettrick Drive.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “The wellbeing of our colleagues is our highest priority and we will take the necessary steps to ensure their safety at work.”
Anyone unable to collect post from the delivery office is asked to get in touch with Royal Mail to make alternative arrangements until it can resume deliveries.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Inquiries are ongoing following a report of a man assaulted on Carrick Road, Bishopton, on Wednesday, February 25.”
