Royal Mail to close delivery offices to centralise services in Wolverhampton

Two local Royal Mail delivery offices are set to be relocated in order to centralise services in Wolverhampton.

The moves come after a decline in letter and parcel deliveries, but Royal Mail said there won’t be any job loses following the decision and workers from Bilston and Wombourne will also move.

Customers will have to travel to Wolverhampton city centre to collect their items from the North West Midlands Mail Centre Customer Service Point on Sun Street.

However, Royal Mail say normal delivery services will not be affected and the same post men and women will still carry out a high-quality delivering service.

In a statement Royal Mail said: “Detailed planning is now underway to ensure a smooth transition for our operation and our people so that the high level of service we provide to our customers in Bilston is maintained.

“The move is part of Royal Mail’s ongoing transformation of its business to increase the efficiency of its operation whilst providing sites for our people which can accommodate the modern postbag.

“This comprises more and larger parcels as customers increasingly shop online, and fewer letters due to the huge growth in electronic communications

The move is set to take place early next year in February.
