Royal Mail to double number of home Covid tests after mass shortage

Royal Mail will be doubling the number of home Covid tests that are sent out to the public after previously running out.

Boris Johnson stated that, starting from Saturday, there will be 900,000 of these tests available per day.

It follows the news that people across the country were unable to order lateral flow tests from the government in the wake of surging Omicron cases.

On the website, a message appeared stating that tests were not available to be sent to home addresses, though they can still be picked up from chemists.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) stated on Monday: “Due to exceptionally high demand, ordering lateral flow tests on gov.uk has been temporarily suspended to fulfil existing orders”.

Amid rapidly increasing case numbers, Boris Johnson said: “We’re helping people to get the tests they need.
