Royal Mail to launch new Sunday delivery service to keep up with demand

Royal Mail have announced a new parcel delivery service they hope will benefit customers.

The company say they will be trialling a Sunday service for large retailers who need packages dropped off.

As the market for online shopping continues to grow, Royal Mail have been under huge pressure to keep up with demand as deliveries rise over lockdown.

And as part of a new seven-day-service, they will now attempt to process more packages than ever before.

According to Glasgow Live, Royal Mail delivered around 496 million parcels alone in the third business quarter ending December 27.

Now, construction of a new parcel hub in Northamptonshire is hoped to allow one million packages to be processed and sent out each day.

Chief commercial officer Nick Landon said: “The UK already trusts us to deliver their purchases six days a week both quickly and conveniently. Now, for the first time, our posties will be doing the same thing seven days a week.

“The last year has reset so many customer expectations and the desire for even more convenient and even more frequent parcel deliveries has certainly been one of them.

“We always listen to our customers, both senders and recipients, and the ask here was clear: we love what you do Monday to Saturday, so please do the same on a Sunday.

“So that’s what we’re doing, as quickly as possible, so we can offer it to more and more customers across the course of this year.”
