Royal Mail union to ballot 100,000 workers – Boscalicious

There are above 100,000 Royal Mail staff to be canvassed for a possible strike action in a dispute over job security and terms and conditions of employment. According to an agreement by the management, a raise to pay and reform pensions is not being allotted. There has hence been a disappointment that the union had chosen to ballot members while still it is under discussions. The union believes that the business, in spite of their own media campaign, are not working within the spirit and intent of our national agreements and are following their own program. This will have long-term disadvantageous effects on terms and conditions of employment, job security and on the future of Royal Mail Group.

Strikes at the privatized postal service were averted last year after Royal Mail agreed to raise pay, reform pensions and reduce weekly working hours from 39 to 35 by 2022, believed to be depending upon productivity improvements.

As per media, the deal is under threat under recently appointed chief executive Rico Black. Royal Mail has said it is a mandate by the agreement and has awarded two pay rises since last year.

It also promised to cut the working week by an hour – although negotiations about additional cuts have been stalled. It comes as workers and management prepare for external mediation in a separate dispute about new policies designed to improve parcel handling.

If workers vote to strike it could lead to a trike of tens of thousands of staff, they suggested it was open to settling the dispute, within a period of weeks for further dialogue.

It is expected to have a successful and sustainable company that provides good quality jobs, fairness in workloads, and continues delivering country wide service.
