Royal Mail is commemorating the 25th anniversary of the seminal Lord of the Rings film trilogy with a new collection of special stamps.
The fantasy saga, which began as JRR Tolkien’s novels in the 1950s, was adapted into the award-winning cinematic series, spawning numerous spin-offs.
The primary collection features eight stamps showcasing beloved characters, including Sir Ian McKellen as the wizard Gandalf, Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, Orlando Bloom as the elf Legolas, and Elijah Wood as the hobbit Frodo Baggins.
Further stamps depict Pippin Took, portrayed by Scottish actor Billy Boyd, hobbit Merry Brandybuck (Dominic Monaghan), and the late Sir Christopher Lee as the wizard Saruman.

A miniature sheet complements the main set with four additional stamps, illustrating iconic Middle-earth locations such as The Shire, Mount Doom, Rivendell, and Argonath. Intriguingly, the stamps incorporate hidden messages in Elvish, detectable only under UV light and shaped like the One Ring, a nod to the series’ lore.
Created in collaboration with Warner Bros Discovery Global Consumer Products (WBDGCP), each stamp proudly displays the Lord of the Rings film series logo.

Originating from JRR Tolkien’s 1950s novels, the saga found global cinematic success with The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001. This led to The Hobbit prequel trilogy, the ongoing The Rings of Power TV series, and an upcoming Andy Serkis-directed film, The Hunt For Gollum, slated for next year.
David Gold, director of external affairs and policy at Royal Mail, said: “The Lord Of The Rings ranks as one of the most iconic and beloved film series of all time, and we’re delighted to celebrate its enduring popularity with this set of Special Stamps.
