The postal service is introducing 3,500 “postboxes of the future” across the UK, following a successful pilot earlier this year.
The new design allows customers to send and return labelled parcels – up to the size of a shoebox – through a postbox for the first time.
As a result, many postboxes across East Renfrewshire and beyond have been covered in black binbags and removed from service in recent months, leaving many keen to know when the replacements will be introduced.

A spokeperson for Royal Mail said: “The upgraded postboxes on Grampian Way and Newton Avenue (in Barrhead) were installed last week and are now up and running.
“The Oakbank Drive postbox will be operational in the coming weeks.”

The reimagining is the biggest redesign of the iconic red landmarks in their 175-year history.
The modern makeover includes a barcode scanner which opens a drop-down drawer for parcels larger than those which fit through the traditional postbox slot.
The new postboxes also feature a solar panel positioned due south for optimal sunlight to power the scanner and drawer, and a separate slot for letters.

“Our postboxes of the future offer another convenient way for customers in East Renfrewshire and elsewhere to access Royal Mail’s services, alongside home delivery and collection, our customer service points, Post Office branches, lockers and Royal Mail Shop outlets,” added the spokesperson.
