Royal Mail urged by MP to reinstate post box on A46 Evesham Road

Dame Harriett Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire, has backed the campaign to replace a post box at Long Carrant Park, near Evesham, which was damaged in a traffic incident.

The post box, located on the A46, was taken out of service, forcing residents to make a mile-long detour to find an alternative.

According to Ofcom, the Royal Mail regulator, people should have access to a post box no more than half a mile away.

Dame Harriett said: “I’ve campaigned for many years to improve road safety along the A46 and it seems perverse that this decision means more people having to walk along a busy and dangerous main road just to post a letter.

“I understand that the residents at Long Carrant Park have offered a new post box a home near to the residential park which will mitigate some of the extra risks people used to take using the old post box.

“Over recent years, the network of post boxes has gone into decline and I’d like to see Royal Mail go the extra mile to make it easier for people to use their services.”

The MP has invited the chief executive of Royal Mail to see the problems first-hand.
