A Royal Mail van caught fire while doing its rounds in the Dereham area this morning (March 11).
A fire crew from Dereham was called to the scene in Bittering Street, Gressenhall to find the vehicle in an inferno.
They used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire within half an hour the incident was over.
An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said the postal worker managed to rescue the mail from the van before it became engulfed by the blaze.
The characteristic red paint of the Royal Mail van was burnt off in the fire, leaving a white carcass of the vehicle behind.
A Norfolk Fire Service spokeswoman confirmed no one was hurt in the incident.
Royal Mail has been approached for comment.
