Royal Mail warning over stamp changes which could see customers hit with extra fees

Royal Mail customers are being warned they could face extra charges by the end of the next month if they are not aware of changes that will be taking place soon. In February, Royal Mail introduced barcoded stamps to replace the traditional ones.

The postal company originally gave a January 31 deadline for customers to either use the stamps or swap them for the new barcoded ones. But, it has since added a six-month grace period.

The company has now said that older stamps will soon no longer be valid, reports the Liverpool Echo. This means people will need to use or swap any old-style stamps they still have by Monday, July 31. People have been sent leaflets in the post to remind them of the new deadline.

The leaflets state: “Time is running out to use your old non-barcoded stamps. You have until July 31 to use your non-barcoded ‘regular’ stamps.

“They will not be accepted for postage after this date and you could be subject to surcharge. Alternatively, you can swap them for new barcoded stamps.”

There is also a Stamp Swap Out form on the reverse. Alternatively, you can download one to print out here.
