Royal Mail warning to customers as delays hit Cheshire areas

Royal Mail has warned customers over delays and disruption to deliveries across the country, including areas in Cheshire.

The postal service stated that due to issues such as Covid self isolation and high levels of sick absence, deliveries in a ‘small number’ of offices may temporarily not be possible.

Two areas in Cheshire have been impacted by the delays as Upton deliveries will be affected today (January 19) and Northwich was impacted on Monday (January 17).

The service also said the delays are down to ‘resourcing’ and ‘other local factors’.

It comes after Cheshire East Council contacted Royal Mail in December 2021, following complaints that some residents were receiving post just once a week and some first class mail was taking up to two weeks to arrive.

The statement on the Royal Mail website reads: “Deliveries are operating as normal across most of the country today.

“We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“In a small number of local offices this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as COVID-related self isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

The postal service also apologised for any inconvenience caused and stated they will regularly update customers on their website.

A total of 38 areas could be impacted by delays today (January 19).
