Royal Mail warns delays will affect Southend-on-Sea postal deliveries today

Royal Mail has warned people to expect delays with receiving their post in Southend-on-Sea today.

According to the Mirror, the postal company has been hit hard by coronavirus challenges which has caused disruption to its services.

Disruption has meant that Royal Mail is saying it’s not going to be able to deliver six days a week across certain postcodes – including those in Southend-on-Sea in Essex.

Postcodes affected include SS0 to SS4, SS9 and SS22.

Royal Mail says it’s due to both staff self-isolating and taking time off while sick that’s contributing to the upheaval.

It also said “resourcing, or other local factors” is causing the service disruption.

A statement on the Royal Mail site reads: “Deliveries are operating as normal across most of the country today. We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“In a small number of local offices this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as COVID-related self isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.”

It added: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”

Royal Mail updates its website daily with a list of delivery offices affected by delays and disruption.

Today’s affected offices (February 10) are:

  • Chulmleigh DO (EX18)

  • Hanwell DO (W7)

  • Liverpool South East DO (L13, L15 and L16)

  • Southend on Sea DO (SS0 to SS4, SS9 and SS22)

Southend is only the latest place in Essex to be affected by postal problems.

Chelmsford has been plagued with delivery issues for months – residents said they hadn’t received mail for more than three weeks at one point in November.

And Upminster was also affected by disruption after Christmas, which Royal Mail explained was due to staff self-isolation, among other local factors.
