What you need to know about Royal Mail delivery delays on Tuesday, December 2
- Royal Mail has warned one of its vehicles was delayed leaving the Princes Royal Hub, in Stonebridge Park, Brent, on Monday night (December 1). This means some post across London and the South East may arrive later than expected today (Tuesday).
- There have also been problems in processing and despatching mail from the Romford Mail Centre over the past 24 hours. This means some mail posted from East London postcode areas E, IG and RM and due for delivery across other parts of the UK may arrive later than hoped.
- There are also 10 UK postcode areas outside of London facing delays to post being delivered today. These are in Gloucester North DO (GL3 and GL4), in Plymouth North DO (PL2 and PL3), in Pontefract DO (WF7, WF8, WF9 and WF11) and Whitwood DO (WF6 and WF10).
- Royal Mail said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive. We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
- When it comes to Christmas deliveries, the Post Office has urged people to organise sending their parcels ahead of the expected busiest day at its branches on Monday (December 8).
- Brits are planning on sending more gifts this Christmas compared to last year – up from 20% to 33%, according to a survey for the Post Office. However, just 33% plan to post their gifts and cards by early to mid-December, while 8% admit to sending everything in the week leading up to Christmas.
- Post Office branches can be used to collect or drop off prepaid parcels, not only with Royal Mail and Parcelforce, but Amazon, DPD, DHL and Evri in selected branches as well.
