Royal Mail warns of severe delivery delays this week – is your postcode affected?

Royal Mail issued a warning over severe delays taking place in some parts of the country following a recent amber weather warning. Areas in the UK affected by snow and ice this week “may experience some disruption to delivery and collection services”.

Although Royal Mail assured that the majority of services are running as usual and they are currently working to recover service, “there may be some disruption in some areas of the country”.

Some of the most affected postcodes include parts of the Midlands, North East and North West England, North Wales and Scotland postcode areas.

Royal Mail explained that when there is severe weather, “your street or some of the roads on route to your address may become too dangerous to access”.

This could be due to significant snowfall, icy conditions or localised flooding, and postmen will “make every attempt to get your mail to you daily” but only “if it’s safe for them to do so”.

Delivery delays due to weather conditions may also happen after the postmen “are unable to finish their rounds because of issues along the way”.

“Conditions can improve or deteriorate quickly, so we undertake risk assessments throughout the day to ensure we’re doing all we can to get to as many addresses as possible.

“And we always work hard to return to full services as quickly as it’s safe for us to do so,” the Royal Mail website explained.

The site also announced other delays impacting Royal Mail International export services which will affect customers this week.

Delivery of international items “may take slightly longer than usual” and there will be “some tracking events in a small number of destinations”.

Royal Mail also warned that customers using International Tracked services may notice different tracking information as items leave the UK.

“If you cannot see tracking information for your items it is likely to be available on the overseas’ posts tracking websites.”

Customers who need more information about their international deliveries can visit royalmail.com/sending/international/overseas-postal-tracking. “We’re sorry for the disruption this incident has caused affected customers,” Royal Mail added.

Deliveries across the rest of the UK “are operating as normal” but in a small number of local offices, there may be slight delays this week due to the high levels of sickness absence, among other factors.

Some of the affected post offices include:

  • Beaworthy SPDO (EX21)
  • Brae SUDO (ZE2)
  • Chulmleigh SPDO (EX18)
  • Faringdon DO (SN7)
  • Farnham DO (GU9 and GU10)
  • Lerwick DO (ZE1, ZE2)
  • Portishead DO (BS20)
  • Rayleigh DO (SS6)
  • Sandhurst DO (GU46 and GU47)
