Royal Mail worker has Oldham post snatched including passports

Residents have reported important documents never arrived at their homes after a Royal Mail delivery worker had their post snatched last month.

A handful of homes in the Westwood area of Oldham have reported their post never arrived after mail was stolen from a delivery driver.

Among the now lost and missing parcels included a birth certificate and several passports.

In a post online, one mum said she never received her children’s passports and had to race to London to apply for new ones ahead of their holiday.

She said: “I’m supposed to fly out on Sunday. I’m totally stuck and now will have a loss of £2,000.

“Extremely frustrated, exhausted of running around, and really sad.”

Another resident confirmed her child’s birth certificate was stolen on the same day but they were able to quickly get a new copy for free with the help of the council.

She said: “Royal Mail had sent me an empty envelope with a letter attached informing me of the theft.

“Oldham Council were brilliant and they printed me a copy of the birth certificate on the day when I produced all the evidence of the theft to them.”

Royal Mail has confirmed mail was stolen on November 3 at approximately 11am in the OL9 postcode.

A spokesperson said the incident has been reported to Greater Manchester Police and the investigation remains ongoing.

GMP has also been approached for comment.
