Royal Mail’s attempts to get staff on board with its latest pay offer instead may have increased the likelihood of strike action. That was the warning yesterday from Liberum, the City stockbroker, which reckons that by going public with its offer the postal group has rubbed up union bosses the wrong way. “We believe the announcement will be viewed as a snub by the Communication Workers Union and will be used as a rallying call for the strike ballot,” Gerald Khoo, its analyst, said.
Should staff accept the offer — a 6 per cent rise over three years — Mr Khoo said that it would be a coup for Royal Mail, although there was “little prospect” of this happening. “We doubt a below-RPI pay offer
