Royal Mail’s Christmas warning to anyone sending cards and parcels

As the festive season picks up pace, Royal Mail is getting into the Christmas spirit by rolling out a special postmark to remind people across the country to send their festive greetings early.

The postal service has issued a caution ahead of the last posting dates for 2nd Class mail, which is currently scheduled for Wednesday, December 21, but may be subject to change.

For those opting for 1st Class delivery, the deadline is even tighter, with a cut-off on Tuesday, December 20, to ensure cards and parcels are dispatched in time.

Since Monday, December 2, all stamped mail has been adorned with the message, ‘Remember to post early for Christmas. royalmail.com/greetings’, and this will continue until Thursday, December 19, reports the Express.

Royal Mail has also advised customers: “Latest posting dates are correct at the time of publishing and are subject to change. It’s always advisable to post as early as possible to ensure that your Christmas letters and parcels reach their destination in good time.”

Christmas is ‘by far’ the busiest time of year for Royal Mail workers, according to the organisation’s chief commercial officer

Nick Landon, chief commercial officer at Royal Mail, added: “We all have a lot on at this time of year and it’s easy to leave posting cards and presents to the last minute. However, the run up to Christmas is by far the busiest time of the year for our posties and we don’t want anyone to be disappointed by not getting their cards and presents in time for the big day, so we are reminding customers to post by the deadlines.”

It’s not just the posting dates that are crucial to ensure your post is delivered on time. Royal Mail also reminded customers to address their Christmas posts correctly.

The full address should be written on all items, including the complete postcode. Check your correct postage is vital to avoid delays or additional charges for the recipient.
