Royal Mail’s Sept. 30 definitive meets new international rate

By David Hartwig

A Sept. 30 definitive stamp issue from Great Britain’s Royal Mail meets a new international postage rate effective Oct. 6.

The £3.40 stamp covers the international standard rate for letters up to 100 grams and has a background color of what Royal Mail calls dark green.

The stamp features a portrait of King Charles III to the left of a barcode printed in the same color as the background and separated by a simulated wavy-line die cut. The barcode can be scanned with a smartphone.

Cartor Security Printers printed the self-adhesive stamps by gravure in panes of 25. Each stamp is perforated 15 by 14.5 and measures 39 millimeters by 30mm.

An available presentation pack contains the stamp and information about the king’s portrait.

Royal Mail also offers a first-day cover with a postmark from Tallents House and one with a postmark from Windsor.

The stamps can be ordered from Royal Mail’s website at https://shop.royalmail.com/special-stamp-issues/definitives. Ordering information also is available from Royal Mail, Tallents House, 21 S. Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh, EH12 9PB, Scotland.
