The woman critically injured after being hit by a rollercoaster at the Royal Melbourne Show has been identified as her father tells how his fears for her quality of life if she survives.
Melbourne woman Shylah Rodden, 26, is fighting for life after being hit by The Rebel rollercoaster about 5.45pm on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.
Police believe she was trying to retrieve her phone and walked onto the tracks but some witnesses claim she fell from one of the carriages.
There are other reports Shylah was dragged into the air by the rollercoaster before falling up to nine metres to the ground.
Her devastated father Alan Rodden says his daughter will remain in coma in Royal Melbourne Hospital for a significant time.
He shared his fears she will never fully recover from her injuries if she survives.
‘The injuries are horrific. Horrific,” he told the Mail.
“She’s brain damaged. It’s pelvic, her arms, legs, back, neck. There’s hardly a thing that’s not broken.
“I just can’t work out how the hell so much damage has been done.
‘Even the doctors have said they haven’t seen anything as bad as this for a long time.”
Her sister Caisha told how she was working at a stall at the show and went on the ride during her break when the accident happened.
The shocking incident, which was witnessed by dozens of showgoers, resulted in those on the ride being stranded for hours while the drama unfolded.
Melbourne Royal chief executive Brad Jenkins said all of the show’s rides had been cleared by Worksafe before patrons arrived on Thursday.
Worksafe and police continue to investigate the incident. The showground remained open after the incident for several hours.
