Royal Mint: Paddington Coin for £15,000 with 50% to charity

The Royal Mint 50p coin depicting Paddington Bear at St Paul’s Cathedral is listed on eBay for an initial asking price of £15,086.72 – over 30,000 times its face value.

Half of the money from the sale in Evesham will be donated to Cancer Research UK.

The final of a four-coin series, marking the 60th anniversary of the book ‘A Bear Called Paddington’, the bear can be seen wearing a tag saying “please look after this bear. Thank you,” and is tipping his hat while proudly standing in front of the dome at Saint Pauls.

The initials of the reverse designer, ‘DK’, can be seen to the right of the bear.

The obverse of the coin features the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark.

Running around the portrait is the monarch’s legend and date: “ELIZABETH II . D . G. REG . F . D . 50 PENCE. 2019 .”
