My thanks go to the essential workers keeping things moving and keeping us safe over the holidays, and also the people who carry on working, serving food and drink, and selling and delivering presents so that everyone else’s Christmas runs smoothly.
Speaking of which, last week, I kicked off the final Friday before Christmas with my traditional visit to the Royal Mail sorting office in Fisherton Street.
I know a lot of MPs accept Royal Mail’s annual invitation to thank their postmen and women for their hard work over the festive period.
In my case, it was a pleasure to do so, thanks to the warm welcome I received.
I saw the well-oiled system in full swing and was delighted to hear that, this year, Salisbury can boast that it is one of the top five performing sorting offices in the country.
2026 will be an important year for Royal Mail in the city, as they prepare to move to a new home on Churchfields, securing more space, more parking, and well-deserved better staff facilities.
I plan to be at home in Salisbury throughout the festive period.
My constituency office will be closed on the forthcoming bank holidays, so that my hard-working staff can have a break.
If you message over the holidays, bear with us, and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
One of my first engagements straight after Christmas will be a tour of Alabare sites in and around Salisbury.
Alabare is a Christian charity which aims to break the cycle of homelessness by rebuilding broken lives.
Probably best known for its annual Sleep Out fundraiser, which I have participated in almost every year since my election, it has a number of strands of activity, including teaching life skills and working with homeless veterans.
I have just become a member of the board – the latest of several local charities of which I am pleased to be a patron or supporter.
I see accepting invitations to serve as a key part of my duty as Salisbury’s MP.
If I can be of any assistance to any local organisation, then I will always find the time to step up and do my best.
