Albe Hammond, ten and his friend Luke Cairns, 12, were out and about in Saxmundham when they noticed the ‘upset and distressed’ lady sat on a bench near the Royal Mail delivery office in the High Street.
So they decided to buy her a bar of chocolate and found a Galaxy bar in the Saxmundham Local store, but when they returned, they found that she had left the area.

With the idea in mind, they set out to find someone else to give the chocolate surprise to.
The left the bar in the cycle helmet of Peter Berry, who rides a penny farthing bike that was stood outside the town’s Waitrose supermarket.
Albe, who attends Benhall Primary School, said: “I was bored and I wanted to cheer somebody up.
“We noticed the lady was upset and we tried to give it to her originally, but we thought it would be a nice surprise for someone when they returned to their bike.”

Home-schooled Luke said the friends, who live in Benhall, had tried to offer the chocolate to a motorist, but they did not want it, so they decided to leave it for the penny farthing owner instead after taking an interest in the unusual bike.
The helmet was attached to the bike.
Luke said the distressed lady was talking about how her friends had left her so they decided the honeycomb chocolate bar might help to improve her mood.
He added: “It was more of a spur of the moment thing. She was just really distressed and talking about how her friends had left her so we just wanted to help. She seemed to be on the verge of crying.”
