Scales of Justice: Results from Oxford Magistrates’ Court

LAWSON WRIGHT, 53, of Dene Road, Oxford, admitted assisting in the importation of 1,000 diazepam tablets. The class C drugs were found at the Royal Mail International Logistics Centre in Langley, Berks, on November 19 last year. He was fined £330 and ordered to pay £119 in costs and surcharge. The drugs were forfeit and will be destroyed.

JACK GALE, 28, of The Moors, Kidlington, admitted driving a Ford Transit on Henley Avenue, Oxford, while over the drink drive limit. Tests showed he had 86mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35. He was fined £200, banned from the roads for three years and must pay £165 in costs and surcharge.

PAUL COWIE, 36, of Boclair Street, Glasgow, admitted drink driving an Audi in Purchase Road, Didcot. He had 55mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The magistrates fined him £120, ordered he pay £133 in costs and surcharge and banned him from driving for 16 months.

ALEX ROSE, 35, of Station Road, Gerrards Cross, pleaded guilty to driving a Citroen Berlingo on the M40 at Lewknor while disqualified, without insurance and while over the drug-driving limit for cocaine. He was banned from the roads for a further three years and must complete drug and mental health rehabilitation programmes as part of a community order. He must pay £180 in costs and surcharge.

SHAUN DEW, 27, of North Crawley, Milton Keynes, admitted driving a Ford Transit in Buckingham Road, Bicester, while disqualified and while using a mobile phone. He was fined £900 and banned from driving for a further six months.

GREG ALLEN, 45, of Bathing Place Court, Witney, pleaded guilty to drink driving a red Peugeot in North Way, Oxford. Tests showed he was more than twice the legal limit, blowing 91mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of breath. He was fined £323, banned from the roads for 23months and must pay £85 in costs and a £129 victim surcharge.

JOSE PHILLIPS, 61, of Luther Street, Oxford, admitted two breaches of his criminal behaviour order by ‘walking in the highway’ and making ‘racial comments’ to a police detention officer. He was fined £100.

ANTHONY MARTIN, 43, of Churchfield, Nuffield, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer in Abingdon. He was given a mental health treatment requirement as part of a community order ending next July.

ELLIOT MASON, 37, of The Hamel, Oxford, admitted assault by beating and breaching his bail by failing to attend court. The court found that the comments were homophobic. He was fined £120, must pay £200 in compensation and was given a restraining order banning him from contacting the victim or going to the Sainsbury’s store in Park End Street until October 2024.

DAYL FLANAGAN, 31, of Longlands Road, Oxford, pleaded guilty to assault by beating. The assault, which was on a woman, took place in Park End Street in February. The defendant was ordered to pay £200 in compensation, a £750 fine and £160 in costs and surcharge.

NICHOLAS COOMBE, 36, of The Downs, Standlake, admitted breaching a non-molestation order by sending Instagram and text messages in breach of the family court order. The court imposed a community order with an alcohol abstinence tag and a requirement to complete the building better relationships domestic violence course. A restraining order bans him from contacting the victim until October 2025.

NICHOLA VASS, 34, of Newhouse Crescent, Watford, admitted drink driving a Ford Focus on the A40 in Oxford. Tests showed she blew 99mcgs of alcohol, almost three times the legal limit. She was fined £323, banned from driving for a year and a half and ordered she pay £119 in costs and surcharge.
