Scam text claiming to be from Hermes targeting residents in North East Lincolnshire

The Covid-19 pandemic has seen a significant rise in scammers targeting people via the means of email, text and telephone.

Residents of North East Lincolnshire have certainly not been immune to this, with new scams being reported across the borough each week.

Common scams claim to come from companies such as Royal Mail and Amazon in the form of text message or email.

This week, local residents have taken to social media to complain about a scam text message which claims to be from the popular delivery company Hermes.

The scam text message reads: “HERMES: We attempted to deliver your parcel on 12/04/21. Pay a £1.57 redelivery fee at reroute-hermes.com to avoid your parcel being returned to the sender.”

It is estimated that scams cost the UK economy £5 to £10 billion per year, with approximately 53% of people aged over 65 being targeted by the scams – which can often be very convincing.

You can report any attempt to steal your money or personal data to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 3040, or you can report it online here.
