Scenic Farm Shop in grounds of a castle has new owners

Powderham Farm Shop and Bistro in the scenic grounds of historic Powderham Castle has found new owners in the form of Chris and Carol Wright. The successful entrepreneurs, and operators of the thriving Otterton Mill in East Devon, have acquired the farm shop and bistro from the previous owners, Tom and Leanne Klinkenberg. The sale was successfully brokered by Devon-based property agents, Charles Darrow.

Known for offering a wide range of local and regional produce from quality suppliers, with a loyal following, the farm shop and bistro have become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. The business comprises a butchery counter, delicatessen, off-licence, gift area, pet supplies, fruit and vegetable section, and a community Post Office.

With a separate bistro named The Orangery, customers can enjoy homemade food to savour on-site or opt for a takeaway experience, accompanied by an assortment of hot and cold beverages, including the quintessential Devon Cream Tea. The new owners aim to build upon the foundation laid by Tom and Leanne Klinkenberg and further enhance the offerings and customer experience.

“We are thrilled to embark on this new journey with Powderham Farm Shop and Bistro,” said Carol Wright, of Otterton Mill. “The Klinkenbergs have done an exceptional job in growing and improving the business over the past five years, and we are eager to continue their legacy of excellence. Powderham Castle’s beautiful setting and the support of the local community make this acquisition even more special for us.”

The Wrights plan to retain the essence of the farm shop and bistro that has endeared it to its customers, while also bringing their expertise to introduce exciting new elements. With their passion for supporting local producers and promoting sustainability, they aim to further strengthen the connection between the business and the community it serves.

“We have a deep appreciation for local produce and the heritage of Powderham Farm Shop and Bistro,” added Chris Wright. “Our goal is to continue providing the highest quality products while introducing innovative ideas that enhance the overall customer experience. We are committed to ensuring that Powderham Farm Shop and Bistro remains a thriving hub for food enthusiasts and visitors to the castle.”

Charles Darrow, the property agents who facilitated the sale, expressed their delight at bringing together both parties. “It has been a pleasure working with Chris & Carol Wright and Tom & Leanne Klinkenberg to finalize this deal,” said Paul Heather, director of Charles Darrow. “We believe that Chris & Carol’s dedication and vision, coupled with the strong foundation laid by the Klinkenbergs, will undoubtedly lead to even greater success for Powderham Farm Shop and Bistro.”
