An email sent to parents by the headmaster of Stepney All Saints School was published in The Mirror.
It read: “You may be aware of a car accident that took place yesterday evening involving some of our students. Our staff have been in contact with the families of those students who were involved as passengers of the vehicle.
“Prayers are with those students and their families. We wish them a speedy recovery. We ask any students who are distressed due to this situation to speak to their tutor in the first instance or for Year 11 students in particular, to contact school directly via their head of year.”
Stepney All Saints School, a Church of England voluntary aided school, is led by headmaster Paul Woods, according to its website. A poster of summer events on the site lists the Year 11 leavers celebration as taking place on July 11.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Six people were taken to hospital, where their injuries were assessed as not life-threatening. There have been no arrests, and enquiries are ongoing.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We sent a large number of resources to the scene, including six ambulance crews, two paramedics in fast response cars, two incident response officers and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team.
“We also sent a Command Support Team to the scene and dispatched London’s Air Ambulance. We treated six patients at the scene. We took two of the patients to a major trauma centre and the other four to local hospitals.”
The Telegraph contacted Stepney All Saints School for comment.
