A new interactive map showing Scotland’s “most dog-friendly” forests has been released.
If you have a dog, there is nothing better than heading out into the Scottish countryside with them. As we enter November, time is running out to make the most of the spectacular autumn Scottish scenery.
To help dog-owners decide where to head for a hike with their pooch, experts at Dog Friendly Cottages have launched an interactive map showing the most dog-friendly walks near you. It allows users to discover the top forests near them in just a few clicks.
To use the interactive map, which was “designed with simplicity in mind”, simply input your postcode. The map will then show the top-rated woodlands nearby, each represented by a paw icon coloured either green, yellow, or red.
A green paw represents the forests that are the highest-rated for dogs according to the experts. Meanwhile, yellow or red paws represent woods that may have fewer amenities or lower ratings.
According to the map, some of the top dog-friendly walks in Scotland include Reelig Glen near Beauly in the Highlands, Dalkeith Country Park near Edinburgh, and The Hermitage in Dunkeld. On the other hand, some ‘red paw’ forests are Boghead Wood in Lenzie and Dundee’s Middleton Wood.
When putting together the interactive map, the experts considered a range of factors. These included the number of dog-friendly cafés nearby, visitor reviews, and the size of woodland.
A spokesperson for Dog Friendly Cottages commented: “At Dog Friendly Cottages, we are passionate about making dog-friendly travel easier. We know that a great woodland walk doesn’t just bring joy to your dog – it enriches the experience for the whole family.
“Our goal is to eliminate the guesswork, giving dog owners a reliable resource for finding the most enjoyable, dog-friendly locations across the UK. Whether you’re planning a weekend trip or simply looking for a new local spot, our map ensures you and your dog will find the perfect place to explore.”
