The coronavirus death toll passed 2,600 in Scotland yesterday amid a surge in infections, and confirmation that 11 residents of a care home have died since the start of the pandemic.
The Scottish government said a further 15 people had succumbed to Covid since Friday, bringing total fatalities in Scotland to 2,609. Within the same 24 hours, 1,167 people tested positive, 17.6% of those tested. Of 675 people in hospital, 62 were in intensive care.
The R-number (rate of infection) in Scotland is between 1.3 and 1.6.
It emerged this weekend that four more residents at Redmill Care Home in Whitburn, West Lothian, had died from coronavirus, taking the total death toll there to 11. There are 20 staff members and 35 residents still infected.
