Scots firms including Tesco & Royal Mail recruiting for temporary Christmas staff as thousands of jobs available

COMPANIES across Scotland are recruiting for temporary Christmas staff – with the recruitment process already up and running.

Supermarkets and other firms will be taking on extra workers for what is hoped will be a busy period over the festivities after a turbulent year for the high street.

Tesco are recruiting staff for Christmas

Among them are Tesco – who have 11,000 temp jobs open at stores up and down the UK.

And recruitment for the roles is now open.

Applications for all job positions available opened on October 12.

And punters looking for work this Christmas can apply online.

Morrisons is another supermarket looking for staff over the holidays.

The supermarket giant’s recruitment process opened on October 17.

Among the roles on offer are customer assistants, store pickers and packers, manufacturing operatives and warehouse jobs.

Meanwhile Royal Mail is also open for applications for staff to help with parcel sorting over the busy festive period.

We told you last week how a grandad is spreading festive cheers after putting up his Christmas lights two months early.

Ian Cochran, from Hamilton, hopes his outdoor display will help make people smile after a “terrible year” overtaken by the coronavirus pandemic.

The 68-year-old has spent thousands of pounds on his collection, which he has added to over the past 35 years when his two daughters were little.

It took the festive fanatic more than two weeks to painstakingly put out all of his decorations and lights outside his Burnblea Street home.

The grandad of two said: “This has been a terrible year with this pandemic affecting people’s mental health and cannot be with their loved ones this Christmas.
