A shop in Fife has issued a statement urging customers to be kind to its frontline staff following the planned closure of its in-store post office.
Spar in Halbeath, Fife, have informed the village’s local community group that members of public have been “extremely verbally abusive” to staff at the store, describing the outbursts as “outrageous and totally unacceptable.”
At the end of November 2020 it was announced that the local shop’s Post Office branch would close in January 2021, with locals rallying to try and prevent the permanent closure of the site, describing it as a ‘lifeline’ for locals of the Dunfermline village.
However, despite the decision for the closure having been made by the Post Office’s head office, it hasn’t stopped angry villagers from taking out their frustrations on staff in the store.
A post on Halbeath Village Tenants and Residents Association read: “We bring some extremely disturbing and appalling news.
“We have been anonymously informed of reports of members of the public been extremely verbally abusive to front line Spar staff which is totally without any question or doubt outrageous and unacceptable at all costs!
“Let us be clear the fantastic hardworking frontline Spar staff have had absolutely NO say in this closure, it has been a Headquarters Decision and they are not to blame whatsoever for the closure and nor do they have any power to reverse the decision so DO NOT BE ABUSIVE IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM.”
