Scrambler bike ‘performing wheelies on a public road’ seized after rider stalls in front of police

Police have condemned the behaviour as reckless

A scrambler bike rider’s luck ran out after armed response officers observed the motorcycle being ridden dangerously while patrolling in the Derry City and Strabane District.

Officers saw the rider performing wheelies on a public road which potentially put other members of the public at risk.

When they signalled for the bike to stop, the rider stalled and made off on foot from the scrambler. Officers subsequently seized the vehicle after checks confirmed it was being used without insurance.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “This type of behaviour is reckless, illegal, and poses a serious danger to the rider and others in the community. We will continue to take action against those using vehicles illegally or in an anti-social and dangerous manner.”
