Search for Melbourne couple who have not returned from regional 4WD trip

Police are searching for a Melbourne couple who have not returned from a 4WD trip to an isolated part of regional Victoria.

The 50-year-old Murrumbeena man and 37-year-old Oakleigh East woman were supposed to return home from their trip to the Grampians last night and pick up their dogs from their family.

They did not pick up the pets, and have not been heard from since Saturday, when they sent a photo of themselves in the vicinity of Glenelg River Road about 8.20pm to family.

The couple are believed to be missing in the Grampians. (Nine)

The pair set off on the 4WD trip on Friday and were last seen leaving the Royal Mail Hotel at Parker Street in Dunkleld, about 11am on Sunday.

Police are concerned for their welfare because the area they were visiting is isolated, densely vegetated and the roads are boggy, and are searching the area by helicopter and on the ground.

Police are also calling for the public’s help to find the pair, as well as their blue Toyota Hilux, which has registration plates reading LIACOS.

It is not known whether the couple have access to food and water.
