SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: The vital clue about how the Queen Mother would have seen Megxit

It’s probably for the best that Prince Harry’s great-grandmother is not around to witness his ‘abdication’ from royal duties.

Video footage of the Queen Mother has been released in which she can be heard expressing her hope that Harry and Prince William would ‘put their country first, whatever happens’, adding: ‘I’m sure they’ve been brought up like that.’

The video has been shared online by royal pal Basia Briggs, who was present when the Queen Mother made the remarks at her London residence, Clarence House.

‘It’s a historical gem of a video that I found in my cupboard under the stairs,’ Basia says.

The Queen Mother’s life was dominated by the Abdication crisis of 1936, when her husband Bertie had to take the throne as George VI after his brother, Edward VIII, left the country with his American divorcee wife, Wallis Simpson.

Lady Kitty and Pixie find a Lott to talk about…

Who will be first down the aisle? Princess Diana’s niece Lady Kitty Spencer and pop singer Pixie Lott bonded over more than just a love of fashion when they sat next to each other at the Schiaparelli show in Paris.

The duo, who wore the Italian fashion label, are both planning their forthcoming nuptials.

However, Lady Kitty (above left) seems a bit more keen on matrimony than her pal.

Lady Kitty, 29, is newly engaged to South African businessman Michael Lewis — who, at 60, is five years older than her father, Earl Spencer.

She has been seen sporting a dazzling diamond ring believed to be worth up to £300,000.

The Voice Kids judge Pixie, 29, got engaged to her boyfriend, M&S model Oliver Cheshire, 31, in 2016 — though their nuptials keep being pushed back.

‘We’re not in any rush,’ Oliver tells me. ‘We’ll get married when we are ready.’

Thick Of It writer Armando Iannucci says the General Election campaign was more improbable than anything he might have conceived for his political TV satire.

‘I’d definitely have rejected Johnson hiding in a fridge,’ he says, before recalling the moment the Prime Minister took a reporter’s mobile on live TV.

‘And pocketing someone’s phone? That’s just bizarre — like an improvised take we’d have thrown out as too bloody ridiculous.’

Lord Heseltine feared that his political career was over before it had begun when he interviewed Prime Minister Harold Macmillan in 1961 for a men’s magazine he had acquired, About Town.

‘I remember our photographer Terry Donovan telling him where and how to stand — he wasn’t going to be pushed around by a prime minister — and I got embarrassed,’ says the Tory peer.

‘Suddenly Macmillan walked out of the room and I thought: ‘That’s it — there goes my career!’

‘But eventually he came back. ‘I wanted to ensure that Lady Dorothy [his wife] was properly dressed before I showed you around,’ was his explanation.’

Alexa in a statuesque ‘throuple’!

Model Alexa Chung thought nothing of the 12-year age gap when she started dating her younger boyfriend, chocolate heir Orson Fry, 23.

Now she jokes she’s dabbling in polyamory.

After attending the Dior fashion show in Paris at the weekend, she posed in front of a replica of Rodin’s The Kiss (pictured right) and described the spectacle as a ‘throuple’.

It comes shortly after she eschewed a conventional view of romance.

‘I don’t subscribe to the fact that you need one man to be happy: I think it’s a really cr***y, anti-feminist sentiment,’ she said.

‘I would never discount the idea that I could have a relationship with a woman at some point.’

Strictly finalist Emma Barton will be swerving certain delicacies north of the border during the show’s live tour.

‘In the past, I’ve had battered haggis and battered Mars bar, but I won’t be eating those this time, surrounded by all of these beautiful dancing girls,’ says the EastEnders star.

Monty Python star and film-maker Terry Gilliam has two unfulfilled ambitions. ‘Are there things I wish I had done? I still haven’t hang-glided and I have not taken LSD.’

At least he continues to look on the bright side of life. ‘When I have a bad day, I don’t cheer myself up. I say: ‘Sink, and there is nowhere else to go but up.’ I am an old-fashioned manic depressive. My wife has to put up with it and she knows the truth about who I am.

‘On my gravestone it will say ‘He made Brazil’. But I don’t want that. I want, ‘He giggled in awe’ on it.’

Mick’s not-so Spicy night with Georgia May’s cuddly toy

She may be the daughter of a Rolling Stone, but model Georgia May Jagger prefers to dress up as a member of a 1990s pop band.

The 28-year-old daughter of Sir Mick and Jerry Hall revelled in her childhood love of the Spice Girls at the weekend when she dressed as Emma Bunton — aka Baby Spice — in a pink skirt and matching top and trademark platform shoes.

‘I was obsessed with the Spice Girls. I made my dad take me to the Spice World movie premiere,’ she said.

‘I brought my stuffed dog Spot and I made my dad hold it because I was like eight and there’s all these 12-year-old girls wearing short shorts — I have to be cool.’

I’m sure Mick was over the moon…
