But terrifying CCTV shows dangerous drivers ignoring the rules of the road and ploughing into pedestrians and cyclists.

The clips see drivers speeding through the crossing before hitting into unsuspecting people walking across the road.

Several of the victims in the video are children – including one unsettling clip showing a Royal Mail van narrowly missing a small child.

It comes as last month, an eight-year-old boy was knocked down on the road suffering minor injuries.

Now the problem is finally set to be solved as traffic lights are going to be installed.

Mohammad Haleem who owns the near by Spencer Foods said: “We’re absolutely delighted that work will soon be starting to make it safer.

“This has been a very long time coming.

“We started a petition demanding changes at least 15 years ago – 15 years, can you believe it?

“We’ve witnessed so many collisions there over the years – action is very much needed,”

Tahir Zeb filmed several of the crashes at the crossing and is now “very happy” Bradford Council has “taken this really seriously”.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw said: “This zebra crossing has recently been the scene of several incidents where drivers have failed to stop for those crossing the road and new crossing with traffic lights should make it safer.

“We have prioritised this scheme for progression and the funding has been identified.

“Now that the necessary statutory process has been undertaken and a suitable contractor has been secured, work can commence.”
