Silloth residents share frustration over delayed post deliveries

Silloth residents have spoken about ongoing issues receiving post from Royal Mail with some waiting more than one week to receive important letters regarding medical appointments, parking fines, insurance, and even birthday cards.

They say that instead of letters being delivered each day, they’re instead being delivered all in one go or every couple of days.

One resident said: “We hadn’t received any post for ages then today received six items of post, one being dated November 19 which was important as major changes were being made to the electric meter on December 3.”

Another added: “Just got a Parking Eye fine for overstaying on The Range car park and I had no idea I had.

“Letter was issued on December 3, delivered on December 21 so the option to reduce fine to £60 within 14 days instead of £100 had already expired.”

A third resident said: “We don’t get mail for days and days, sometimes only once a week – and not only at Christmas, it’s all year round, it’s inexcusable.

“When I got mail this week, I received 12 items, some eight days old, that’s not good. It’s happening too often and the people in charge need to answer questions and tell us the truth.”

The residents aren’t pointing fingers at the people delivering their post as many have only positive things to say about their posties.

However, that doesn’t erase the frustration felt by those who are waiting days or even weeks to receive their post.

Nicola Ives said: “I refuse to blame our posties; it’s just frustrating for the residents of Silloth to receive post now and again, especially if you’re waiting for hospital appointments.”

“[The] posties are brilliant, it’s the lack of post being delivered through the week that’s frustrating,” added another resident.

Christine Young, from Aspatria, said: “I don’t blame the people delivering the post, however it’s been diabolical. I’m waiting for an important MRI scan referral and if I miss it then it’s the Royal Mail’s fault.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “A huge increase in mail volumes over Christmas, combined with recruitment challenges, has unfortunately had an impact on deliveries in Cumbria.

“However, no post has been delayed for more than a day in Silloth and Aspatria. We will be recruiting for more staff in the local area in the new year.”
