Simple Royal Mint trick people are using to turn 10p into £12

Visitors to the Royal Mint have discovered a simple trick that lets them turn any 10p into £12.

The hack involves the special 10ps released months ago – each with a different letter of the alphabet.

And the mint lets your swap any old 10p for one of the special edition ones – some of which sell on eBay for up to £12 each, reports WalesOnline.

Each alphabet coin features a design linked to the letter it carries – with typically British images such as a letter box or a fry-up.

Each one sells for a different price on eBay, and the one that has attracted the highest value is J, for Jubilee.

In order to get your hands on one, you need to visit the Royal Mint in Pontyclun, South Wales, on a Tuesday, Friday or Sunday between 10am and 2pm.

If you take standard 10p coins, or even small change to the value of 10p, they will swap it for an A-Z coins. You can buy up to 10 of the A-Z coins at a time.

One coin collector based in Cardiff told WalesOnline: “Loads of people are doing it. You just go down and swap three times a week and then make a profit on Ebay. Click on the sellers – they are all from Cardiff and south Wales. “

Speaking when the coins were originally minted the Nicola Howell from the Royal Mint said: “These 26 individually designed coins, each with a quintessentially British subject, is the first ever commemorative range struck on a 10 pence piece.

“It will be one of the most limited issue coin designs for 2019 to be released into circulation,” she continued, “so to complete the collection we also have an exclusively designed 2019 A to Z collector album.”
