Snap of Prince Charles with Meghan Markle on display at Camilla’s International Women’s Day event

A framed photograph of Prince Charles walking Meghan Markle down the aisle to marry Prince Harry was on display during the Duchess of Cornwall’s International Women’s Day celebration yesterday.

Camilla, 74, hosted a reception to mark the day at Clarence House, with stars including Mel B and Emerald Fennell, who played the duchess in the fourth season of the Netflix series, attending.

Visible on the side-board during the event was a framed black-and-white snap of the Prince of Wales as he accompanied the Duchess of Sussex, 40, down the aisle of St George’s Chapel four years ago.

The photograph was first revealed by Meghan and Harry in May 2019 in a post on their Sussex Royal Instagram account to mark their first wedding anniversary.

It comes as a royal expert claimed Prince Harry is ‘in regular contact with Prince Charles’ but his relationship with Prince William ‘has not recovered since Oprah interview’.

The black-and-white photograph shows the bride being welcomed by her new father-in-law Prince Charles.

It’s placement alongside photographs of the family at Prince Louis’ christening, and a portrait of Prince Harry, may be an indication relations are thawing between the family.

Earlier this year, royal biographer Tom Bower claimed Meghan and the Duchess never saw eye-to-eye.

The commentator, who is currently working on a biography of Meghan, has said Camilla was long ‘suspicious’ of the Duchess’ intentions.

He told The Sun the duo never got along, explaining: ‘[Camilla] found it hard to believe that Meghan would sacrifice her career and independence to serve silently as a team player devoted to the monarchy.’

However he added that the Duchess remained ‘tight lipped’ about her dislike for Meghan.

Tom said that Camilla acted as a ‘comfort’ to Prince Charles after the Sussexes gave a series of explosive interviews last year.

He added: ‘During those inevitably endless, tortured and inconclusive conversations, Camilla is the sort who would refer to Meghan as ‘that minx’ — the self-seeking trouble- maker whose antics will always end in tears.’

Meanwhile the royal biographer suggested the Duke and Duchess’ silence over the Queen’s declaration that Camilla would one day by Queen Consort was ‘Meghan’s way of declaring war.’

And yesterday, Camilla Tominey noted Prince Harry’s relationship with his family has barely improved over the last year.

She wrote in The Telegraph: ‘While Prince Charles is thought to be in regular contact with his youngest son, Harry’s relationship with William has still not recovered from Oprah, after he suggested both his father and his brother felt ‘trapped’ in the Royal family.’

One source told Camilla: ‘As the Queen has always said, [Prince Harry and Meghan] remain much loved members of the family but it’s not been easy.

‘It’s hard enough for any family to get along but when such intimate details are made public on prime time TV? It’s difficult to put that genie back in the bottle.’

Camilla was typically polished at the event yesterday in a structured blue dress adorned with gold buttons , paired with black tights and matching boots.

Camilla welcomed Fennell along with other leading women from the arts, politics and business to celebrate International Women’s Day.

She met with members of Team ExtraOARdinary, who rowed their 23-foot boat ‘Dolly Parton’ 3,000 miles from La Gomera in the Canaries to English Harbour in Antigua in 42 days, seven hours and 17 minutes.

The impressive journey raised money for cancer charities Macmillan, Cancer Research UK and the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Prystailo, who last week was comforted by the duchess, gave a moving speech about the plight of women in her homeland as the Russian invasion continues.

Camilla, president of the Women of the World Festival being staged this weekend, said ‘vast strides’ still need to be taken towards greater equality and told her guests: ‘We will need more than 135 years to close the gender gap worldwide.’
