Solar postboxes arrive in Stamford

Post boxes across the area are being unveiled with a new look – and new uses.

As reported on LincsOnline, Royal Mail is converting selected postboxes into solar-powered ‘postboxes of the future’ with a barcode scanner and a drop-down drawer for parcels, and a separate slot for letters.

A solar panel on top powers the technology.

Boxes in Recreation Ground Road, Stamford, and outside the newsagent’s in Sutherland Way are among those converted so that parcels can be posted.

Jan Simmonds and Peter Smith sent photos of the box in Sutherland Way. In her message, Jan said the workmen fitting the adaptations had told her the door of the box had been sent to Wales to be updated, and their task was to reinstall it on to its original frame.
