SOLD! Funky Pigeon changes hands in multi million pound deal

Card Factory has bought Funky Pigeon for £24million.

The deal was agreed in July, with the fulfilment business now owned by the retailer.

Funky Pigeon is reported to make around £32m a year – with its products being despatched from fulfilment centres in Guernsey and Bristol.

It’s not clear how many people are employed at Funky Pigeon’s Guelles Road base on a permanent basis, but the company takes on additional staff throughout the year to meet peak demand at Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day.

The fulfilment business opened its Guernsey base in 2017 – running a similar operation to Moonpig which also runs its greeting cards fulfilment business out of Guernsey.

Both businesses have been success stories in Guernsey’s fulfilment industry making millions of pounds, employing permanent and casual staff locally, and exporting goods worldwide using the local postal and air transport networks.

Express has asked Funky Pigeon for confirmation of any impact to its Guernsey staff as a result of the takeover by Card Factory. No reply has been received at the time of publication.

Card Factory also has a presence in Guernsey with a shop in Le Pollet, which is a franchise run by Sandpiper CI.
