Sophie Wessex opens the Central School of Ballet’s new premises in London

It was back to business for the Countess of Wessex, who wrapped up warm as she arrived at the Central School of Ballet’s new premises in London today.

Sophie, 55, has recently enjoyed some time off from her royal duties, spending the February half-term in the exclusive Swiss ski resort of St Moritz with her husband Prince Edward, also 55, and their children Lady Louise, 16, and James, Viscount Severn, 12.

And the Queen’s daughter-in-law didn’t let a dreary day dampen her spirits, as she arrived with a smile, donning a dusky pink coat, which perfectly matched her nude-coloured nail varnish.

The mother-of-two will open The Countess of Wessex Studios, named in her honour, on the South Bank in Southwark, later this afternoon.

Students will gradually start using the new premises during the summer term, where they will move from the school’s current Clerkenwell home – with plans for the school being fully operational by September 2020.

The Central School of Ballet first unveiled their plans to move to a bespoke new premises in March 2017.

At the time, Sophie commented: ‘This is a momentous time in Central’s history. Their planned move to Paris Gardens will allow a greater engagement with young people who don’t currently get access to dance classes, building on their activities with junior schools in Southwark.’

‘This organisation was founded on the principle that talented young dancers should get the opportunity to pursue dance as a career independent of financial circumstances or background.’

‘The new premises will allow the school to work with local communities to ensure this founding principle is followed.’
