Bingo nights area creating a full house for pubs and clubs by pulling in the punters.
Players in Spalding have been without a venue for more than five years after Regent Bingo never re-opened after the pandemic – but now pubs and clubs are stepping in to fill the void.
With sessions being held quieter nights and bingo fans are taking their dabbers and anticipation to other venues which is great for businesses.
One of those venues is Spalding Consti Club, in Broad Street, which is seeing a great response.
Keith Copping, chairman of Spalding Consti Club in Broad Street, said: “We have only started bingo quite recently.
“It is being well-attended and we are hoping it will grow bigger as time passes by.
The club is now running bingo on a Tuesday night which avoids clashes with other activities happening at the club such as darts and snooker.
But it is proving so popular that they are planning to expand that to hold daytime sessions in order to attract a different demographic.
Mr Copping said: “We believe it would appeal to a different bunch of people.
“Retirees for example don’t want to go out on an evening but do want to get out of the house.
“Bingo is not everyone’s cup of tea but there are certainly a lot of people that do like it.”
Padraig Hughes, manager of the recently-re-openedRoyal Mail Cart, in Pinchbeck Road, also sees the benefits of Bingo nights for people to socialise.
He is lining up a music bingo night with karaoke to fundraise for the Spalding Flower Parade.
Industry leaders call for government to think again on licensing rules that would erode your right to know
Mr Hughes said: “I did a bit of bingo calling at one time and we are in the process of putting a night together.
“People need to be out and about and mixing.
“So many mental health issues are caused because people are sitting at home on their own.”
A debut drag queen bingo night was a sell-out at the WI Hall in Holbeach and will return on Saturday, October 25.
Organiser and star of the show Rhys Burnet, aka Miss 24 Carrot, said: “When we first started out in drag it was all about cabaret shows.
“But as bingo started exploding everywhere we knew drag Bingo was the perfect match.
“Drag bingo has since become a phenomenal success.”
The Regent Bingo Hall has become a grot spot in Spalding’s Westlode Street after standing empty for so long.
The former cinema had been put on the market in June last year.
The venue has been closed since the Covid pandemic in 2020 and suffered fire damage the following year, scuppering re-opening plans.
