Speaking on The Jimmy & Nath Show on Australia’s 2Day FM, Melanie C (Melanie Jayne Chisholm) announced that the girls want to do “something special” to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Wannabe.
The debut single, released in 1996, soared to number one on the UK charts, where it stayed for seven weeks.
“Obviously I can’t say too much but we are talking about things. Hopefully a nice little world tour,” Melanie C said.
Here’s what we know so far.
Why did the Spice Girls break up?

After the release of Wannabe in 1996, Top of the Pops gave the girls the renowned nicknames Ginger, Sporty, Posh, Scary and Baby.
Eight of the Spice Girls’s first nine singles rocketed to number one in the UK.
However, the Spice Girls began to disband just a few years after their meteoric rise to fame. Geri Halliwell (Ginger) left the group in May 1998, during the Spiceworld tour, citing exhaustion.
She said she left due to “differences” between herself and the rest of the group. She later revealed that she’d been struggling with an eating disorder and depression.
Then, in December 2000, the Spice Girls announced they were taking a break. They officially broke up in February 2001.
When did the Spice Girls last perform together?
The Spice Girls have performed together several times since splitting. In 2007, all five members performed in a world tour, The Return of the Spice Girls.

In 2019, Geri, Emma, Mel C and Mel B toured the UK and Ireland, but Victoria did not join.

The Spice Girls reunited at Victoria Beckham’s star-studded 50th birthday in April 2024, performing their 1997 hit Stop.
David Beckham filmed the video, which Victoria shared on Instagram with the caption: “Best night ever! Happy Birthday to me! I love you all so much! #SpiceUpYourLife.”
However, David denied rumors that the Spice Girls would reunite. “Victoria was so pleased to see the girls, and it was a massive part of her life, the girls, but obviously, all the girls have got their own things going on,” he said.
“Victoria’s full on with her beauty and fashion businesses. If anyone’s busier than me, it’s her.”
However, the former footballer, 49, added: “There’s nothing more that I’d like to see than the girls on stage again and I’ll still work at it, don’t worry.”
What other hints have there been that there could be a reunion tour?
Melanie C’s latest announcement is not the first time she’s hinted at a possible world tour. She told Rebecca Judd on Apple Music 1 in February: “There has to be something befitting of 30 years since Wannabe.
“We have to start making the plans right now and putting them into action. So fingers crossed.”

Mel B has also expressed her desire for a reunion. In October 2024, she called her fellow Spice Girls “d***heads” for their alleged hesitancy to commit to another reunion tour. This came after she was reportedly kicked out of their group chat.
Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Mel B said “We are wanting to do something and we are but I can’t really tell you because I’ll get kicked out of the WhatsApp group again so I have to be really careful.”
