Spotify Pie Chart is back: Is there an Apple Music version?

The online feature originally took social media by storm last year but streaming fans are flocking to update their pies 2023 and here’s how you can too.

The third-party website, which was developed by University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) student Darren Huang, analyses your Spotify listening habits and presents your results in pie form.

Just like every year when Spotify Wrapped is released, music lovers have been taking to social media to share their top streams and hilarious reactions.

One person shared the results alongside the caption: “My spotify pie chart is v hot.”

Similar to Spotify Wrapped at the end of the year, one user found the results a tad…exposing: “my spotify pie chart is so embarrassing i’m going to cry.”

A third user joked: “hmm I haven’t tried this spotify pie chart for months now, let me check again-” ok nothing still changed about the genres lol.”

With a fourth writing: “i’m discovering all these cool spotify things like the spotify pie chart and wondering why we had amazon music for so long.”

How to create a Spotify Pie Chart

The genre app known as Spotify Pie allows users to “bake” their own “Monthly Genre Pie”.

The popular new feature reveals your listening habits by genre based on your most played tracks.

Some of the genres include experimental, indie rock, dream pop, K-pop, emo rap and more.

If you’d like to try it out for yourself, you can access it via Huang’s website.

All you need to do is log into your Spotify account through Huang’s genre app – enjoy!

However, a year on, many Apple Music users have also been asking how they can take part in all of the pie-making fun.

Is there an Apple Music pie chart version?

Users have flooded social media over the last year looking for an Apple Music equivalent with many sharing their thoughts and pleas on platforms like Twitter.

One person wrote: “Is there one of those pie chart things but for apple music”, later adding, “I feel so left out.”

A second fan joked: “Having Apple Music makes me feel like I’m at the bottom of the social pyramid. I want to post a pie chart of my listening habits, I want to have a shared playlist for my friends, I want to be free from the corporate chains of Steve Jobs!”

Tagging Apple Music, another user said: “I’m gonna need a pie chart showing some data ASAP.”

Unfortunately for Apple Music users, there is currently no version where they can create their own musical pies.

However, there are some third-party websites that Apple Music fans can get involved in including Pudding.cool’s How Bad is Your Spotify?

The “AI Robot“ was created by digital publication The Pudding, not by Spotify itself and it judges “your awful taste in music”, according to the website.

Under its “How do you know what’s good”, the website explains: “I’ve been trained on a corpus of over two million indicators of objectively good music, including Pitchfork reviews, record store recommendations, and subreddits you’ve never heard of.”

As part of your results, it will tell you what kind of ‘bad’ you are, ranging from ‘tay-tay-fangirl bad’ to ‘ageing-boy-bander bad’ and everything in between.

The bot will tell what it learned from your “hellscape” including which tracks you listen to “too much”, which artists you obsess over “to an uncomfortable extent” and what percent “basic” your music tastes are.

It will also expose what era you are stuck in based on all the tracks you listen to so prepare to feel seen!
