Staffordshire key worker jobs to apply for today

You could be a prison chef or a parcel delivery driver if you’re looking for work in the run up to Christmas.

In Staffordshire, many people have been furloughed or made redundant, with self-employed businesses forced to close for a second time this year. This has left a number of people out of work and looking for employment during a second UK national lockdown.

Staffordshire Live have scoured Fish4Jobs and collated a list of jobs you could apply for today, some with little experience needed.

Chef at HMP Dovegate

Serco are searching for a chef to work in Uttoxeter based prison HMP Dovegate.

The full time role will see the applicant carrying out catering for prisoners and staff, for a salary of over £23,000 per year.

The job description reads: “At Serco, not only is the nature of the work we do important, everyone has an important role to play, from caring for vulnerable people to managing complex public services.

HMP Dovegate.

“As Chef you will assist the Catering Manager and the Chef Supervisor in the delivery of catering services to the whole establishment whilst complying with all relevant Health & Safety and Food Safety regulations, legislation and guidelines.

“Key duties will include providing varied and healthy menus for residents to include special diets, special events and religious events, whilst also keeping abreast of trends and developments in the catering industry such as menus and consumer tastes.”

This role closes on November 19, and will require a hands-on worker capable of working 10 hour shifts.

Warehouse/Office Cleaner

An industrial unit and office in Burton is looking for a cleaner to start immediately.

Warehouse Operative

Smith News, in Stafford, is looking for someone capable of working in a fast paced environment to load and unload vehicles and report shortage or damage to stock.

The job description reads: “Joining us as a warehouse operative, you’ll support all aspects of the effective day to day operation in our warehouse. The role involves loading and unloading consignments within the depot’s warehouse.

“Please be aware that we primarily move irregular dimension and weight freight like lampposts and engines.”

Shifts will be Monday to Friday from midnight to 8am, with full uniform and PPE provided for £9.32 per hour.

Royal Mail

Fancy being a postie? Royal Mail are recruiting for a delivery driver to cover Ashbourne, Belper, Rugeley and Uttoxeter.

The job will offer you the chance to play a huge part in Christmas by delivering presents and post through the festive period.

Royal Mail said: “Royal Mail are now looking for Christmas Delivery Drivers to distribute parcels, spreading the joy over the celebratory season, especially to those who may not be able to see family and friends this year.

“This is your opportunity to have a real impact, in the heart of your community, while working for one of the UK’s most well-loved brands.”


The applicant could earn up to £13.54 per hour, and will be provided with full PPE and training.

The job description added: “You will be responsible for delivering parcels quickly and efficiently, by driving and/or walking on a dedicated route, whilst maintaining our high integrity standards and demonstrating friendly customer service.

“Other duties may also include sorting of mail/parcels within the delivery office.”

The role – which closes for applications on November 17 – is working up to six shifts per week, between the hours of 11am and 7pm.

Warehouse Operative

Food distribution business Q-Mover, based in Barton, is looking for night shift workers to work 2am to 10am.

The job will entail picking orders from the freezer and dry store, as well as returning stock to the warehouse.

Other duties include:

  • Organising our stocks and replenishing as and when required

  • Daily cleanup of the floor areas

  • Keeping records of stock moved between locations

  • Liaising with our supervisors regarding stock shortages

  • Working as part of an ever growing team

  • Ensuring orders are picked to deadlines

The company also offers free forklift driving training for the right employees.

The job will pay £9.72 per hour, with a shorter Sunday shift from 5am to 10am.

To comply with Covid-19 safety guidelines, there are hand sanitiser stations available on site and face masks are required.

Part time warehouse operative

Siamo Recruitment are recruiting warehouse operatives for a Stafford-based client offering up to £8.72 per hour.

The company is looking for weekend workers, which they feel would be ideal for someone looking to earn extra cash, or has studies in the week.

The job description read: “We are looking for people to work either Saturday or Sunday, or both each week. Both days are 12pm to 8pm shifts, that’s not too early or too late to still enjoy the weekend!”

Siamo are looking for someone with an ‘eye for detail and accuracy’. The worker will be responsible for picking orders for dispatch and replenishing stock lines.

The ideal candidate will be able to multitask and be flexible, happy to take on extra hours if possible.

Yodel

Yodel needs delivery drivers in Stafford and Lichfield with their own vehicle to deliver parcels in the area.

The employee will be paid per parcel delivered, earning around £40 to £70 a day.

Yodel said: “As a Self-Employed Courier, you’ll deliver promises, as well as parcels. You’ll use your friendliness, warmth and attention to detail to deliver every item safely and smiling.

“The roles are suitable for independent contractors wishing to accept offers of work up to six days per week, depending on parcel volume this may take as little as four hours or more to complete services each day.”

The job will see workers deliver between 30 to 120 parcels a day, but you will need to organise your own taxes, and own a mobile phone. The driver will need to download an app on which to scan the parcels as they are delivered.

No previous experience is required, but the candidate should be organised and ‘confident behind the wheel’.

Staff Assist UK are recruiting for a national delivery service company and is searching for someone to undertake important administrative work.

The role pays up to £10.50 and will be based in Lichfield five days a week from 2pm to 10.30pm.

The job description read: “Staff Assist UK are in partnership with a prestigious national based delivery service company who are one of the largest couriers in the United Kingdom. This client is looking for candidates with great work ethic, motivation, and roll your sleeves up attitude. Previous administrative and warehouse experience an advantage.”

The are looking for someone who has admin and warehouse experience and good communication skills.
