Stoke-on-Trent named and shamed in Royal Mail postal delays list

Named and shamed!

Two ST postcodes have been included in a list of 40 postcodes where postal deliveries are being delayed across the UK today. Royal Mail has identified issues at the Burslem and Knutton delivery offices – affecting the ST5 and ST6 postcodes.

ST6 includes Burslem, Tunstall, Brown Edge, Norton and Whitfield. ST5 includes Newcastle-under-Lyme, Keele, Clayton, Wolstanton, Stableford, Baldwins Gate, Blackbrook, Maer, Hawthorns, Westlands, and Silverdale.

It warns residents and businesses will not receive their letters or parcels on time.

The postal service has come under increasing scrutiny over its failure to meet delivery targets. This announcement follows news of a stamp price increase next month.

From April, the price of First Class stamps will increase to £1.80 and Second Class stamps to 91p. Back in 2020, a First Class stamp cost 76p, and the price has risen eight times since, reports the Express.

As of Wednesday, March 25, there are numerous delays across the UK.

Royal Mail stated: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

The firm added: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
