Swansea man jailed for multiple ‘frenzied’ domestic violence offences

In November 2023, 25-year-old Parry-Watts, of Ravensfield, Gowerton, was physically violent with his then girlfriend before throwing an item of furniture which struck the woman.

Parry-Watts sat on top of his ex-partner and quizzed her about messages on her phone – slapping her across the face if he got an answer he did not like. The incident was part of a frenzied assault carried out on the woman which also saw him punching, biting, and suffocating her.

Georgia Donohue, prosecuting, said the defendant and the woman were together for around 16 months before their relationship ended after he assaulted her.

He assaulted the victim again, this time more seriously in February 2024. He gained entry to the victim’s property, before becoming aggressive when the victim asked him to leave. He then took the victim’s phone, pushed them onto the floor, and then carried out a sustained assault.

Swansea Crown Court heard the assault came to an end when a neighbour of the victim intervened and drove the woman to safety. A judge sent Parry-Watts to prison for 20 months for battery, ABH, and suffocation – and commended the neighbour for his bravery and public spiritedness.

In an impact statement which was read to the court the woman said Parry-Watt’s behaviour had exacerbated her anxiety levels, and she said she was experiencing flashbacks of the defendant punching her in the face. She said she misses the defendant but realises she has to disassociate herself from him.

Sergeant Kelly Richards dealing with the case said:

“Rhys Parry-Watts is a violent and dangerous individual who carried multiple attacks on his victim.

“His violence was escalating over time, so it is fantastic news that he is no longer able to pose a danger to others.”
