Swedish royals including Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Sofia put on a dazzling display as they mark King Carl Gustaf’s Golden Jubilee

The Swedish royal family put on a glittering display as they arrived for King Carl Gustaf’s Golden Jubilee celebration in Stockholm today.

Crown Princess Victoria, 46, wowed in a voluminous orange gown while her sister Princess Madeleine, 41, donned a stunning strapless outfit in lilac.

Sister-in-law Princess Sofia, 39, chose an eye-catching fuscia pink  dress for the evening. 

The royals were also joined by King Carl Gustaf, Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip in Stockholm. 

Carl Gustaf, 77, is the first king in the Swedish monarchy’s more than 1,000-year history to reach 50 years on the throne.

Queen Silvia opted for a glittering nude dress for the occasion, and stood arm-in-arm with her husband at the event 

And following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last year, he’s the second-longest reigning European monarch alive today, after Queen Margrethe, who celebrated her 50th anniversary on Denmark’s throne last year. 

The jubilee is four days of celebrations that culminate with a military parade through the capital. 

Earlier today, european royals turned out in force to celebrate the golden jubilee of King Carl Gustaf’s 50th in Stockholm. 

Queen Margrethe of Denmark arrived for the festivities alongside her son Crown Prince Frederik, 55, and his wife Princess Mary, 51, on Thursday. 

Meanwhile Queen Anne-Marie of Greece was also among the dignitaries on the guest list for the jubilee events. 

King Carl’s cousin Queen Margrethe looked chic in a navy coat and a red and white gown underneath.

Prince Frederik looked smart in a sage green suit jacket and grey trousers, while his wife looked typically stylish in a beige suit.

Yesterday the Monarch of Sweden appeared in great spirits during the reception at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Sweden’s Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar arrived hand-in-hand at Drottningholm Palace Theatre

Princess Estelle looked elegant in a bold green tulle dress as she arrived alongside her younger brother 

Meanwhile Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel were beaming as they arrived together for the event

While the Crown Princess looked radiant in an orange gown, Prince Daniel opted for a velvety suit 

The couple were in high spirits as they arrived at the event in Stockholm tonight arm-in-arm 

Princess Mary and Prince Frederik of Denmark were also in attendance at the event in Stockholm 

The royal couple smiled towards crowds who had gathered for the Jubilee concert this evening at theatre 

Princess Madeleine opted for strapless lilac number for the outing in Stockholm this evening, arriving alongside her husband 

Meanwhile Princess Sofia donned an eyecatching pink dress for the occasion

The royal, who is a distant cousin of King Charles, received a present and balloons from Jennifer McShane and Ava Thunberg from the foundation My Special Day.

Carl donned a navy suit which he paired with a white shirt and a matching navy tie.

King Carl ascended to the throne on the death of his grandfather, Gustaf VI Adolf, on 15 September 1973.

He is the youngest child and only son of Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten, and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

He married Silvia Sommerlath in 1976, three years after his accession.

The royal couple share three children – Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden, 45, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, Duke of Värmland, 43, and Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland, 40.

Ahead of his Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Royal Court of Sweden shared a new image of the monarch, which was taken in the Royal Palace of Stockholm’s Hall of State.

Queen Anne-Marie of Greece was also among the dignitaries on the guest list for the jubilee events

Crown princess Mary looked typically stylish in a beige suit which she paired with a white T-shirt 

Queen Margrethe was spotted greeting the navy as she boarded a ship in Stockholm

King Carl’s cousin Queen Margrethe looked chic in a navy coat and a red and white gown underneath

Dressed in his admiral uniform, the father-of-three is pictured next to the silver throne, which dates back to Queen Kristina’s 1650 coronation and is used in state openings of parliament.

Over his uniform, the King wears a number of medals – including the Order of the Seraphim.

This medal – also known as the ‘Blue Ribbon’ – is seen as Sweden’s equivalent to the UK’s Order of the Garter and is the highest honour of chivalry which can be awarded.

On top of this, the monarch also wears the Royal Order of Vasa, the Order of the Sword and the 1840 Order of Dannebrog chain, which can only be given to the monarch’s closest family.

The King also appears to be wearing the exact same ceremonial chains he donned for his 1973 regal assurance, when he became the country’s youngest ever monarch at 27 years old.

The new portrait of the King, taken by Thron Ullberg, will appear on stamps being issued in Sweden in 2023.
