Sweet moment teacher, who travelled from France to meet royal family, tells Kate her work in early years ‘means everything to him’

Fans gushed over the Princess of Wales as she made a spectacular return to form at Sandringham this Christmas, after what has been a particularly difficult year for the Royal Family.

Kate, 42, joined King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales, and other senior members of The Firm for the royal walkabout on their Norfolk estate after the Christmas Day service at St Mary Magdalene church on Wednesday.

Overjoyed to see the Princess – who was diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year, looking healthy and happy – well-wishers offered their season’s greetings, compliments, and gifts to Kate during her most significant public appearance of 2024.

Among them was a school teacher from France who took the opportunity to tell Kate how much her work on the early years meant to him in a heartwarming interaction.

English teacher Louis documented their meeting in a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, with the caption: ‘Sharing this very special moment with you all. Happy Christmas’

In the short clip, Louis gave Kate, who looked radiant in a forest green Alexander McQueen coat, a scarf from Morocco and a letter addressed to the royal.

‘I’ve written a letter for you because your work in the early years has meant so much to me,’ he told her, before sharing how much she inspired him.

‘I’m a teacher in France and thanks to you, I’ve started something,’ Louis continued.

Kate replied: ‘That’s very special, thank you very much. It’s very kind of you to come all this way.

‘Keep up your good work as well,’ she added, ending their meeting with words of encouragement.

This isn’t the first time Louis has met Kate, who he describes as ‘one of my sources of inspiration’.

The educator who travelled to London for King Charles’ coronation met Kate on May 4 – ahead of the official ceremony on May 6.

He shared a snippet of their interaction on X/Twitter at the time, alongside a caption that read: ‘Many have reached out, and asked what the Princess and I talked about.

‘I’ll share this video with you.

‘She most cheerfully lent an ear, was really interested in my job (I’m a teacher of English) and was genuine with everybody.

‘Yesterday was a dream.’

The Princess of Wales in 2021 launched the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Years to highlight the extraordinary impact of a person’s early childhood years in order to transform society.

After completing a preventative course of chemotherapy in September, Kate’s first official work meeting was about her ‘Early Years’ project – highlighting how the initiative continues to be one of Kate’s top priorities since it was launched.

Her Centre for Early Childhood looks at how the impact of what happens to children between the ages of birth to five has a direct link with some of today’s hardest social challenges, such as addiction.

She has vowed to highlight importance of the issues for the rest of her working life.

Royal fans were overjoyed on Wednesday after the Prince and Princess of Wales stepped out for the royal festive walkabout with their children.

Joining William and Kate on the annual morning stroll at Sandringham in Norfolk yesterday were their trio of cheeky children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and six-year-old Prince Louis.

During the walkabout, Kate also met with a cancer patient and spoke to well-wishers about her own journey with the disease after the shock announcement about her diagnosis in January.

She told royals fans she was ‘hugely grateful’ to the hundreds of people who had written to her offering their support as she navigated her cancer journey.

Moments after she took a gift for Charlotte from a little girl, who she wished Merry Christmas, a woman who had worked for Macmillan Cancer Support told Kate: ‘I just wanted to say you are an inspiration to all the patients.’

The Princess of Wales replied: ‘The amount of people who have written this year is extraordinary and I think cancer just really does resonate with so many families.

‘People like you are doing all the hard work out there. I’m hugely grateful.’

Another woman added, ‘We’re all behind you, never forget that,’ to which Kate replied, ‘Thank you very much, [that’s] so kind, nice to meet you.’

Members of the public who met Kate described her as ‘radiant’. A cancer patient who was one of the well-wishers also hugged Kate.

Karen Maclean, from North Lincolnshire, spoke with both Charles and Kate and gave the princess a hug.

The 73-year-old, who is retired, said she had had ’20 years of cancer’ and spoke about the disease with the King and his daughter-in-law after their own health issues this year.

‘We just had a little talk about cancer, really,’ said Ms Maclean.

‘I’ve met the King before. He said to me ‘I can remember you’, I’m thinking ‘what!’, like many years ago?’

She said that Charles and Kate seemed ‘very well actually, considering what they’re going through’.

She added after hugging Kate: ‘What a privilege.’
