Could you be the perfect match for beautiful Twix? This affectionate two-year-old Chihuahua / Jack Russell terrier cross is looking for a very special home after a tough start in life.
Twix arrived in RSPCA care in February last year following a cruelty investigation, alongside her canine companion KitKat. She later came to RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre in Chobham, Surrey, on 24 March, where staff quickly saw what a loving and clever little dog she is.
But while KitKat has gone on to find her new home, Twix is sadly still waiting.
Despite settling well in the centre, Twix has found the outside world overwhelming. She was placed into a foster home for around four months, where she formed strong bonds and showed her playful, affectionate side. Sadly, her anxiety during walks in busy environments meant the placement wasn’t the right long-term fit, and Twix returned to Millbrook so she could find a home better suited to her needs.
As sweet as her name suggests, Twix is a loving girl who adores human attention. Inside the home she is calm and cuddly, loves toys, and would happily chase a ball all day if allowed. She’s incredibly intelligent and currently attends weekly training classes at Millbrook, where she particularly enjoys agility and scent work.
Kate MacNeill, Behaviour and Welfare Advisor at Millbrook, said: “Twix is such a loving little dog who just wants to feel safe. She’s affectionate, playful and incredibly clever – but the busy world outside can be too much for her. Inside the home though, she’s a joy to be around.”
When out on walks, Twix can become anxious and will bark at her surroundings and other dogs, although she is not aggressive. Because of this, she is looking for a quiet, rural home with access to secluded walking routes and a large, secure garden, which will be her main space to run, play and relax off lead.
“She isn’t a cafe dog or a busy park dog,” added Kate. “But in the right home – somewhere peaceful with patient, experienced owners – Twix will absolutely thrive and we’re all desperate to see her get her happy ending.”
Twix would be best suited as the only pet and can live with secondary school-aged children who understand her need for a calm environment – and staff at the centre are keen for her to find a home fairly local to Millbrook, starting with a foster placement before moving on to adoption to help her settle in.
Twix also has a managed medical condition and requires a prescription diet due to a previous history of urinary crystals, which has been successfully controlled.
Kate added: “Despite everything she has been through, Twix remains full of love and enthusiasm. She’s eager to learn, highly motivated by food – especially chicken – and happiest when she’s close to her people enjoying cuddles and playtime!”
Anyone who thinks they could offer Twix the peaceful, understanding home she deserves can find out more on her Find a Pet web page on the Millbrook website.
People can also visit the RSPCA’s main Find A Pet page to see other animals across the country currently waiting for their perfect match, or support the charity’s work by donating to help animals like Twix get the second chance they deserve.
RSPCA frontline rescuers are currently doing all they can to help animals experiencing the very worst cruelty and neglect – including those who have tragically been left to fend for themselves – while our incredible animal centres are finding new homes for countless rescued animals each year.
Sadly, incidents of animal abandonment being reported to the RSPCA are on course to be at a six-year high. That’s why this winter, the charity has launched The Big Give Back to Animals to raise vital funds for their frontline teams, and to ensure they can keep being there for the animals who give us so much, and ask for so little in return.
