What elevates it further is the brass — a stunning, melancholic swell courtesy of Bon Iver’s CJ Camerieri and The 1975’s John Waugh. Their contributions don’t dominate; they colour the edges, adding warmth and ache in equal measure. JT Bates (Big Red Machine) and James McAlister (The National, Sufjan Stevens, Gracie Abrams) deepen the rhythmic world with subtle percussion and electronics, giving the song a pulse that feels human rather than programmed.
Pickard produced, mixed and engineered the track himself, with additional production from Latin‑GRAMMY nominee Juan Ariza. Mastering legends Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone add the final sheen — but the emotional core is unmistakably Callum’s. “It had many versions,” he says of the song, “but I’m extremely proud of the final product. I wrote it during my first romantic relationship… becoming familiar with the feelings and emotions as that relationship developed.”
It’s a beautifully understated confession, and it mirrors the wider world of Home At Cofa’s — a record rooted in Coventry, in belonging, in the strange push‑and‑pull of trying to grow into a city that doesn’t always feel like it fits. Named after the legendary Cofa’s Tree, the album is shaped by Pickard’s life on the ground: working as a Covid tester, cycling Deliveroo routes, delivering post for Royal Mail. Jobs that put him face‑to‑face with the city’s full spectrum of lives, stories, and contradictions.
That blend — solitary creation, communal observation, and a rotating cast of collaborators orbiting his world — gives Tarragon a unique gravitational pull. You can hear it in ‘Tucked In Despair’: the quiet introspection, the sense of movement, the feeling of someone trying to map out where they stand in the world and in love.
Following the dreamy lead single ‘Kiss Me On The Line’ (featuring My Brightest Diamond and members of The War on Drugs), this new track deepens the emotional palette of the album. If the first single hinted at expansiveness, ‘Tucked In Despair’ shows the detail — the close‑up, the breath, the vulnerability.
